Changes to the Appointment System

The surgery has recently introduced a new appointments system which we hope will address some of the issues patients have had accessing a GP appointment:

  • A high percentage of book on the day appointments. Patients can call at 8.30am for a morning appointment and at 2.00pm for an afternoon appointment. Appointments are released twice a day to maximise patient access and choice.
  • Pre-bookable appointments are available as follows: Weekdays 8.00am – 9.00am, Late nights 5.00pm – 8.00pm, Saturday 8.30am – 12.30pm Appointments which have been requested by your GP.

The reduction in pre-bookable appointments should reduce the hours of GP time wasted by patients not attending their appointments. Statistics show that most non-attendances are by patients who book ahead. Over a 6 month period in 2015 there was an average of 48 hours wasted time every month – that is equivalent of 291 appointments.
